Biography

Dr. Jiangping Wu is a full professor in the Department of Medicine at the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Medicine. In this capacity, he conducts research in immunopathology, a field focused on the mechanisms by which the immune system contributes to the development of various diseases. This discipline investigates inflammatory processes, abnormal immune responses, and the complex interactions between the immune system and body tissues, with the aim of better understanding the origins of certain pathologies and guiding the development of new therapeutic approaches.

Research and impacts

  • Major discovery regarding the production of messenger RNA (mRNA) from DNA—the same type of molecule used in the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Identification of the role of the ARMC5 molecule, which is responsible for destroying components of RNA polymerase II (Pol II), a machine essential for RNA production.
