Research and impacts
- Peer support: Individuals with lived experience of illness, homelessness, or similar circumstances support patients, enhancing their progress toward health and life goals.
- Access to care for marginalized populations: People experiencing homelessness or Indigenous individuals receive care that is better tailored to their needs and culturally safe, despite systemic barriers and mistrust.
- Continuity and collective learning: End-of-life transitions receive better support, fostering shared learning between clinical settings and the community.
- Research and policy partnerships: The direct involvement of patients and youth in research advances health knowledge, practices, and policies.
- Strengthening the social fabric: Intergenerational ties and alliances among communities, researchers, and policymakers help reduce isolation and address complex health challenges collectively.
