Biography

Dr. Pablo Valdés-Donoso is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He also serves as Director of the AI-Agrohealth Platform (PIAAS), a role that reflects his commitment to the intersection of artificial intelligence and animal health. His research focuses on several complementary areas, notably artificial intelligence applied to the agri-food sector, livestock production management, and the development of sustainable animal production systems. He also has a keen interest in veterinary public health and epidemiology—two fields essential for understanding and preventing health issues affecting animal populations and, by extension, human health.

Research and impacts

  • AI applied to veterinary records to improve diagnosis, particularly in cats.
  • New video data from livestock farming to automatically detect animal behaviors, including those invisible to the human eye.
  • Creation of data infrastructure (pipelines, future data lake) to support AI in animal health.
  • Expected outcomes: improved diagnoses, enhanced animal welfare, and advances also beneficial to human health (One Health).
